happyily writing a post after a long time .
These days came across a lot of shareable things .Messed a lot with a lot of things ,lots of exceptions & lots of learning.
One of the best thing among them is StackOverflow
It has got almost every question & every answer .I dont know why I believe in it & ofcourse it has got one of the best GUI designers & the best part is It’s Different. that’s enough for me.

Back with Slackk.. 13! Slacked!!! Again

I recently installed the Slackware 13 (as my Slackware 12.2 failed to resist my experiments ).Though the installation went easy but the successful run of the Slackware 13 was not easy.When the installation was complete first problem I encountered was startx showed me my XFCE screen & then hangs.The reason was that intel 82865 chipset does not work with standard Slackware 13.0 .So everyone out there with Intel 8 series graphics dont leave Slackware 13 cause you can’t run X within it.You just need to follow the post instructions(OR better update your system with current).

The solution is to compile a stable kernel.I used 2.6.32-rc5 and 2.6.32 and zen kernel patches(version mentioned in the post).
The kernel 2.6.32-rc5 showed errors regarding kthread.c.it had element ‘rt’ undefined in method kthread_bind() did a lot of reverse engineering and came to the conclusion that kernel 2.6.32.rc5 is buggy & then used a stable kernel 2.6.32 which ran successfully.
After all done I started X using startx I get Qt errors gooogling gave me reasons about that too.I found Qt too needs to be upgraded to Qt-4.5.
The best solution being the upgrade-all packages:

do slackpkg update
slackpkg install-new
slackpkg upgrade-all
slackpkg clean-system
check and make sure that kernel 2.6.32-5-smp is installed along with kernel firmware kernel modules kernel headers and kernel sourc

I started out with Mandrake then decided to try Slack. I was impressed right out of the gate with Slackware.It encourages you as a user to learn much more than a mandrake or Suse does.Things are not automatic in Slackware as they were in Mandrake .
I disliked Gnome & liked KDE (after 4.2) & then used XFce, to be true XFce is above all & fast GE too.
XFce rocks..Future Slackware

Mess with Slack

Hi friends,

I have been using Mandriva 2009.1 for around 6 months but one day got it crashed (bug details here)

So switched to SLackware 12.2(having Kde 3.5 but quite stable atleast much more than Mandriva 2009.1)

In the meantime Chetan sir mentioned Mandriva 09′s toughsides & mentioned OpenSuse 11.1 that made me influenced by Open Suse & for which have been googling a lot.The features that influenced me a lot is its stability & ofcourse kde4.2.2.

Waiting 2 get a Open Suse11
till then messsing up with Slackware .

In this period of recession what could be much better than a low-cost open source tool..
That’s what Zmanda is hoping as it rolls out new cloud and enterprise data backup and recovery offerings.

The company this week unveiled Zmanda Cloud Backup, an online backup and disaster recovery offering for Microsoft Exchange and SQL Server based on Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3), and Amanda Enterprise Version 3.0, the latest version of the company’s data protection software based on the open source Amanda project.
